Space Badge

U.S. Army Space Badge

The Space Operations Badge is an occupational badge for guardians of the United States Space Force and space airmen of the United States Air Force while the United States Army version of the badge, known as the Space Badge, is a special skills badge for soldiers who qualify as space professionals.

Space Enablers are Army personnel who perform unique space tasks or functions or may require specialized skills to apply space capabilities.

The Army remains the largest user of space-based assets within DoD and the operational force's reliance on these assets is expanding at rates that challenge the force to remain abreast of existing capabilities. Space Cadre members can provide this level of expertise. Mission effectiveness demands technologically sound personnel, sustained by career-long education in applicable science, engineering, application, theory, and doctrine.

Recruiter Badge

U.S. Army Recruiter Badge

All Army personnel that graduate from the Army Recruiter Course (ARC) or are assigned to USAREC are authorized to wear the Basic Recruiter Identification Badge. However, only those ARC graduates who have satisfied specific recruiting goals are authorized to wear the Basic Recruiter Identification Badge as a permanent award.

The circular band alludes to the continuous need of the Army for young men of quality in its rank. The eagle stands for federal authority and the upraised wings and flaming torch refer to the many opportunities for advancement through education and training offered by the modern Army.

Bronze Order of Mercury Award

Bronze Order of Mercury

The Bronze Order of Mercury (BOM) recognizes those people who have demonstrated the highest standards of integrity, moral character, professional competence and selflessness, and who have contributed significantly to the promotion of the Signal Corps and the Signal Corps Regimental Association (SCRA).

Battalion Signal Officer

Senior Communications Officer for an Armored (Tank) Battalion forward deployed to Iraq. Responsible for planning and executing all means of communication in and out of the battalion and endpoint deployment of enterprise IT services. Established onsite data centers as needed and assured cybersecurity of the local area network. Responsible for a suite of equipment and services that provided the Commander’s situational awareness picture. Built and led a high-functioning team of 8 in building and securing communications for a customer base of over 300 Soldiers. Planned and deployed local networks, multi-campus internetwork nodes, fiber optic networks, commercial internet downlinks, satellite terminals, field phones, cellphone towers, and radio retransmission sites under combat conditions. On short notice, coordinated and established several dedicated circuits delivering video and data communications from the Battalion Tactical Operations Center to multiple locations worldwide. Conducted Radio Frequency Management while deploying electronic countermeasures that prevented Improvised Explosive Device detonation against vehicle-born units while allowing for secure encrypted voice and data service on the move. Planned and wrote the order for long-haul voice and data communications far out of the normal range of service which contributed to the success of the first air assault operation conducted by an Armor in decades. Coordinated successful communication packages to support two successful Combined Arms Maneuver Training Center rotations and two gunnery deployments in Germany; critical to preparing the battalion for its second 15-month combat deployment to Iraq. Served as the Battalion Paying Agent responsible for over $12 million of unit funding and cash payments. Built a relational database using Access, SQL, and Visual Basic to track and manage multiple Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as signal equipment, hand receipts, and weapon system statuses. The resulting speed and accuracy reduced losses and enabled rapid action for the organization.

Leading Organizational Change

“Change is the law of life and those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.”

– John F. Kennedy

John F Kennedy

About Change

"But Goethe tells us in his greatest poem that Faust lost the liberty of his soul when he said to the passing moment: 'Stay, thou art so fair.' And our liberty, too, is endangered if we pause for the passing moment, if we rest on our achievements, if we resist the pace of progress. For time and the world do not stand still. Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or the present are certain to miss the future."

-"Address in the Assembly Hall at the Paulskirche in Frankfurt (266)," June 25, 1963, Public Papers of the Presidents: John F. Kennedy, 1963.
